Although the schedule for the by-elections has not been announced, there are some seats on which political parties are keeping a close eye.
Citing sources, English newspaper ‘The Indian Express’ reported that Congress (SP’s ally) may stake claim on three out of 10 seats.
The names of the three seats on which Congress wants to field candidates in the UP Assembly by-elections are: Meerapur, Majhawan and Phulpur.
Meerapur was won by RLD’s Chandan Chauhan in 2022. RLD is currently a constituent party of BJP. Vinod Kumar Bind of Nishad Party won the Majhawan seat in 2022 and the party hopes that it will get this seat in this by-election, while the Phulpur seat was won by BJP but Congress feels that if it fights in alliance with SP, it can get this seat.
It was told that talks are currently going on with SP regarding the three seats of Congress. However, will they get these or not? Only time will tell.
However, the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections not only increased the stature of Akhilesh Yadav’s SP but also boosted its morale tremendously.
Since SP, which has emerged as the biggest party in UP, is currently the senior partner of Congress, it is difficult for it to be subdued for seats.
If sources are to be believed, SP does not seem to be willing to give up all three seats, which could lead to tough negotiations between the two allies of ‘India’.
However, there were reports in the media that the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP is ready to give two seats to the Congress, which include Ghaziabad and Khair.
The most interesting thing is that out of the 10 seats where by-elections are to be held, Congress could not win any seat in the year 2022.
